Laundry Symbol Guide

Decode the care symbols on clothing tags so you wash, dry, iron, and clean clothes the right way.

Machine wash — 30°C / cold
Wash in cold water (30°C max). Gentle cycle.
Machine wash — 40°C / warm
Wash in warm water (40°C max). Normal cycle.
Machine wash — 60°C / hot
Wash in hot water (60°C max).
Hand wash only
Wash by hand in cool water with mild detergent.
Do not wash
Do not wash with water — dry clean only.
Any bleach allowed
Chlorine and oxygen bleach safe.
Do not bleach
No bleach of any kind.
Tumble dry — low heat
Dryer safe on low / delicate setting.
Do not tumble dry
Air dry only — no machine dryer.
Line dry
Hang to drip dry on a line.
Iron — low
Synthetics. Up to 110°C.
Iron — medium
Wool, silk. Up to 150°C.
Iron — high
Cotton, linen. Up to 200°C.
Do not iron
Cannot be ironed — will damage fabric.

Professional dry cleaning safe.
